Toes-to-Bar

Hanging from the bar and bringing your toes to the bar. A core movement that asks just as much of your grip, shoulders and timing.

In a WOD it is about rhythm. Master the kip and you string sets. Rely on strength and you do single reps.

How to do it

  1. Hang from the bar with a firm grip, arms straight
  2. Start a kip: chest forward, legs slightly back
  3. Push the bar away with straight arms as you flex your hips
  4. Bring both feet to the bar at the same time and touch it
  5. Let your legs swing back under control and use that swing for the next rep

The movement comes from your lats and core, not just your hips. A tight kip saves your grip.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging wildly. You lose control and rhythm.
  • One foot at a time. Both feet have to touch the bar.
  • Bending your arms. Straight arms keep the movement efficient.
  • Going until your grip gives out. Plan short sets before your grip decides for you.
  • Dropping your legs. An uncontrolled way down breaks your rhythm.
